
Eight people were reported killed yesterday when a female suicide bomber detonated explosives among a group of women and children arriving in Maiduguri, Borno State capital from Mafa town ravaged by Boko Haram.
Northeast director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mohammed Kanar, told AFP that the bomber sneaked in amongst them disguised as an IDP (internally displaced person) before setting off her explosives.
Mafa district located in an area near the Nigerian border with Cameroon was under the control of the Boko Haram, which is seeking to establish an Islamic caliphate.
Bishop Kukah laments killings by Boko Haram
Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah said yesterday that some Nigerians have decided to turn themselves into agents of darkness that derives pleasure in seeing people in pains.
Bishop Kukah who spoke after observing Christ The King Procession within Sokoto metropolis, said, Nigerians should not give room for such agents of darkness to triumph by being intimidated.
While insisting that Nigerians should continue to preach on the sanctity of the human life, Bishop Kukah wondered why some can kill, loot and maim claiming to be operating under a religion.
This, according to the outspoken clergy was awkward and should not be regarded as people operating under any religion hence no religion supports killing of human beings.
“A good number of Nigerians have decided to make themselves agents of darkness. But because we are all God’s children, I don’t believe that anybody in his right frame of mind will decide to kill people in their places of worship. That is awkward.
“Can anybody claiming to be a Muslim kill people in the Mosque, or anybody claiming to be a Christian kill people in the Church?
FG Accuses Obama’s govt of politicising Fight Against sect
The federal government of Nigeria yesterday accused the United States President Barrack Obama of politicising the fight against the Boko Haram sect.
Speaking during the just-concluded 2015 Business Opportunity and Investment Forum held by NIDO, Chicago Branch at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare Hotel in Chicago, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Atlanta Georgia and its environs, Mr. Geoffrey Teneilabe, blamed the US government for not effectively assisting Nigeria in its fight against the insurgents. The diplomat said that the US began playing politics with the fight against Boko Haram from the time it refused to sell arms that the troops would have used to totally curb the Islamic sect.
