Fresh twists in P Square’s breakup saga

P Square break-up has been in the news for some time, and it has always been before the release of any major project embarked by the sensational twins who sold their brand to fans in Nigeria and abroad through their eclectic performances and impressionable tracks.

P Square has been in the news for some time because the twins have decided to go solo with different stage names. While the ‘loquacious’ Peter wants to be known as Mr.P, the conservative and calmer Paul is going by Rude Boy with each of them doing their different solo performances and tracks. The battle has raged on especially in the social media with news of strife and reconciliation, accusation and counter accusation, declaration of love and hatred, and boasts of new discovery and independence.

So many concerned fans have taken to twitter, Facebook, Instagram and You Tube declaring love and support for the P Square group while some others have taken sides, encouraging the break-up, and joining in the family war as members of P Square extended family. Others are not fooled by the ongoing controversy surrounding the duo. They claim it’s a marketing strategy for P Sqaure’s coming projects. These people do not believe there is truth in their break-up but regard it as a stunt to promote and bring P Square back to limelight to help keep them in the public and media for people to easily identify with their projects once it comes out. The last group is just tired of the issue whether it is true or false. They are of the view that the break-up has been so over-flogged and has become a cliché in the new media. Some members of this set of fans who spoke with Friday Flavour said they are tired of the everyday twist to the story of P Square or rather Mr P and Rude Boy, and are willing to see them apart if it will end the hullabaloo of the P Square ‘telemundo series’.

Recently in an interview with a popular blogger, Paul Okoye of P-Square confirmed Spinallhe has started his own solo project and now goes by the stage name Rude Boy beseeching fans to support P Square, Rude Boy and Mr.P. to the chagrin of their fans who expressed their loss of interest over the prolonged and over hyped P Square duel. The quiet Paul Okoye who is known for his reluctance to talk about the sibling rivalry assured fans that they are still Okoye brothers and will always remain as P Square but that it’s time for them to go their separate ways.

He revealed the rivalry has been brewing within them for years but it can no longer be contained therefore they need to pursue solo projects and do their individual stuffs. Reacting to the interview on a blog, Chioma Jecinta, suggested she has had enough simply wrote “seen, next please. It’s well”. Juliet Godwin retorted “good for them”, Uju Phil added that it is “their decision, their money” while Stern hysterically added in both English and pidgin that “This una story dem suppose put am for papa Ajasco comedy… When you are tired of the marketing strategy, you let me know. Tomorrow I will see a brand new music video of you both together…”

John Miles who seems to believe in the duel and the due’s separation said “They are just trying to wine us, P Square was over a long time ago!” In Cynberry’s opinion, the issue is over hyped and pleaded for an end to the drama. She said “Abeg enough of P Square, we really don’t want to know. Their issues have been over flogged”. Others think separation may bring out the best out of the brothers and are waiting eagerly to see the next episode of P Square series.

The overwhelming fear for a fan who begged for anonymity is that P Square may end up like Plantashun Boiz. Speaking with Friday Flavour, he said, “P Square may not appreciate the implication of a break-up until it happens. How many of the former Plantashun Boiz do you still hear of apart from 2Baba? I feel P Square boys are good together because two good heads could be better than one. They are making it united as P Square and the story might change if they are divided. They should forget their brawl, think of their fans that love them as a group and think of their career”.
