Two contract staff of two firms working with the multibillion naira
Escravos Gas to Liguid (EGTL) plant operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited
(CNL) in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State have been
feared dead on Tuesday.

Report
said the tragedy took place at about 10:00a.m on Tuesday. The chemical
explosion was said to have distrusted production for several hours.
Fire
fighters were said to have battled with the huge fire which, it was
gathered, started from a porter cabin allegedly stocked with flammable
chemicals.
However, amid the panic that allegedly ensued, the
situation was said to have been professionally brought under control
after which a staff was found dead and another sustaining serious burns.
The victim who sustained some degree of injuries eventually gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital in Warri.
Meanwhile,
investigations into the incident is said to have commenced in earnest
just as the General Manager, Policies, Government and Public Affairs, Mr
Deji Haastrup, debunked any gas explosion. He said it was an accident
at the plant. According to Mr Haastrupt, a fire broke out in a container
storage at EGTl, but was quickly put out.
While confirming the
death, he said “Sadly, an employee of a contractor company was injured
and another died; the safety of the entire workforce including
contractors remains our first priority.”
On his part, Commander,
Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS DELTA), Commodore Raimi Mohammed, also confirmed
the incident, saying it was an accident, adding that his officers had
already taken strategic positions at the plant to investigate the cause
of the explosion.
