
Forty three graduates of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), have been inducted into the physiotherapy profession.
Speaking at the ceremony, which took place at the Nnewi campus of the College of Health Sciences, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Joseph Ahaneku pointed out that the institution has given the graduates comprehensive trainings in character and learning because they are expected to handle human lives.
Ahaneku who was represented by the Provost of the College, Prof. A Nwofor, stated that his administration has placed high premium on infrastructural development of the institution’s campuses to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning, adding that construction work on most of the roads in the campuses are completed.
The Vice Chancellor said that the University also considered the training of teachers very important which he noted has made him initiated staff development programmes for maximum impact.
He said that the school has a zero tolerance for cultism which has made the university campuses very peaceful and conducive for learning, just as he urged the inductees to take seriously the oath they have taken.
In his speech, the acting Head of Department, Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Dr J. Umunnah noted that physiotherapy trainings which started in the College twelve years ago, had made giant strides as a result of the enabling environment made available by the VC and other principal officers of UNIZIK.
While encouraging the inductees to imbibe good virtues they have learnt in the University, Dr Umunnah regretted that the department lost a student in December 2015 while awaiting for induction into the noble profession.
The oath was administered on the inductees by the Registrar of Medical Rehabilitation and Physiotherapist Board of Nigeria (MRTBN) Mrs Funke Akande, who admonished them to look beyond their immediate environment for their internship.
The highlight of the occasion included recognition of four inductees who distinguished themselves in the examination that was conducted by the Board.
